The Transport Secretary Pu P. Lalthlengliana today held a Press Meet at the Aizawl Press Club, assisted by senior officers of the Transport Department where he highlighted new measures to be taken by the Transport Department to ease the problem of vehicular congestion in the city and steps being mooted to make services of the Transport Department more efficient. He lauded the efforts of the print and electronic media in creating awareness amongst the public in matters of transport related issues. 
He informed the press persons about the recent Amendment to the Mizoram Motor Vehicles Rules 1995, under which, from the 30th August this year it will be mandatory for new vehicle owners in Mizoram to have a garage (owned or hired), without which no vehicle will be registered. He added that steps are being taken to change the parking rules under which after 15th Dec 2010, vehicle owners would not be allowed to park their vehicles on roads, but in garages either self-owned or hired.

He also highlighted the proposed "Two Wheeler Taxis" and said that the introduction of such transport service would generate employment and also help ease the problem of traffic jams during peak hours. In addition he also talked about punishment meted out to vehicles caught carrying banned and illegal items, High Security Registration Plates and other transport related issues.

At the end he responded to questions from the press.
