Aizawl, the 8th November 2020 : Union Home Secretary Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla today chaired a meeting via video-conferencing in connection with the current border impasse between Mizoram and Assam and the re-opening of NH-306 connecting Mizoram to the rest of the country which has been blocked at Lailapur for the past 12 days. Both the Chief Secretaries of Mizoram and Assam, Shri Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and Shri Jishnu Baruah;  DGPs of Mizoram and Assam, Shri SBK Singh and Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta; Home Secretary Mizoram, Smt. Lalbiaksangi; Home Commissioner, Assam Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi were in attendance, besides two IGPs of Mizoram and two Joint Secretaries from Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Union Home Secretary pointed that while concerns of both states need to be addressed properly, at the same time the graded  withdrawal of the state police forces from the disputed area need to be done earnestly by both the states.  The national highway which has been closed for more than 12 days must be reopened for traffic by this evening, he added and urged Chief Secretary Assam to ensure movement of trucks from Lailapur to Mizoram.

Both the Chief Secretaries put forth their views and discussed issues pertaining to deployment of Central Armed Police Forces put at the disposal of both states and the reopening of the highway and confidence building measures to bring back normalcy in the disputed area.
