Aizawl, the 28th April 2022: In his maiden visit to the State of Mizoram, the Union Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Shri Bhagwant Khuba today had a meeting with officials from the Department of Power & Electricity, Department of Agriculture and Department of Tourism at Aijal Club.

Chairing the meeting, the Chief Secretary of Mizoram, Dr Renu Sharma extended a warm welcome to the Minister on behalf of the government. She apprised the visiting Union Minister of State about the State of Mizoram and its people, culture and traditions, customs and practices of the people, their social life and economic status.

The Power Secretary gave a brief and insightful presentation on the power scenario of Mizoram, highlighting the current status and need for improvement of power generation within the state. According to the Power Secretary, Mizoram’s peak power demand is 155MW. It has a hydro potential of 3663 MW while the installed capacity is 29.35MW. Installed Solar Capacity is 3.85 MW and local generation of solar power during the year 2021-22 is 3.39 MU.

The Director of Tourism and the Additional Director of Agriculture Department also gave short power point presentations outlining the present scenario, development works and constraints faced by the State in tourism and agriculture.
