On the 31st of October at 3 PM the Hon’ble Minister of State, Independent Charge, for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution upon invitation by His Excellency Shri Vakkom Purushothaman, the Governor of Mizoram made an unprecedented visit to Mizoram House at Vasant Vihar, New Delhi accompanied by  the Secretary, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution along with various officers of the Central Government. His Excellency, the Governor of Mizoram, Hon’ble Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs accompanied by the Secretary and other officers of the state government who had particularly flown down from Aizawl for this auspicious event were present at the reception and attended the meeting which followed.

The meeting was filled with bonhomie and reassurances from the Govt. of India as to food security in Mizoram. It was concluded on a very positive note.

Shri Prof. K. V. Thomas, the Hon’ble Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution assured that Mizoram would be given Special Allocation of 16000 MT of APL Rice before the yearend which would be in addition to its normal allocation. Upon lifting this rice before December the state was also assured that rice allocation at a rate lower than the normal allocation would be received. Shri  H. Rohluna, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs submitted a requirement for 1000 MT of sugar against the normal allocation of 666 MT to which the Central Minister conveyed his approval which would have to be formalized officially.

The Hon’ble Minister along with officials of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs remain in Delhi to officially follow through the positive assurances received from the central government.
