A voluntary blood donation drive in honour of the Christmas holidays ‘Krismas Puala Thisen Pek Runpui’ jointly organized by the Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD), Lunglei and Blood Bank, Civil Hospital,Lunglei was inaugurated by Dr. S.R. Ngurchamliana, Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital and President AVBD, Lunglei at the Blood Bank office today. The special drive, launched today, will run till the 31st of this month.

Dr SR Ngurchamliana complimented the AVBD & Blood Bank Lunglei for organizing the event, and thanked them for their various initiatives to encourage more people to donate blood to save lives. Lauding the voluntary spirit of Mizo people, he stated that it is indeed a matter of great pride for the State that the cause of blood donation has been strongly taken up by the Government, educational institutes, Churches and various NGOs. 

There are two blood banks in the District – one each the Civil Hospital and Christian Hospital, Serkawn. In the last financial year 2019-2020, voluntary blood donation accounted for 90.91% of total blood donations in the entire state. In the first seven months of the current financial year (April-October, 2020), a total of 14,882 units of bloood have been collected in that state, of which 13,574 units (91%) is voluntary. In the same time period, 2019 units of blood have been collected within Lunglei District, of which 1924 units (95.29%) were voluntary. 

Those who wish to donate blood during the ‘Krismas Puala Thisen Pek Runpui’ may approach the Blood Bank office, Civil Hospital Lunglei on Mondays to Fridays (10:00 am to 4:00pm)
