Aizawl, the 9th December 2020 : A two day Photography Workshop aimed at honing the talents of the state’s photographers was inaugurated by the Director, I & PR Department Pi Lallianpuii at the I & PR Auditorium. The Workshop is being organised by the Department in collaboration with Mizo Photographer’s Society (MPS).

In her inaugural speech Pi Lallianpuii spoke about the aesthetic appeal of visual arts and how visual arts are an important tool of documenting not just people, places and events, but of history itself. She said that photography in an art that rouses the mind and soul and often imparts a sense of after thoughts to the beholders and viewers. In this manner, photographs encapsulate a lot of information visually which cannot sometimes be written down or recorded in text. She further said that photography documents past and present events and such visual repositories and archives will be very important for future generations.

She also mentioned that the Department which is one of the oldest Departments of the Government has contributed immensely towards the development of photography before the advent of the digital era. She thanked the Society for having a strong relationship with the Department and said that the fruitful association will further enhance the growth of photography and the development of photographers in terms of techniques and styles.

The inaugural function was chaired by MPS Vice President Pu Armand Malsawmdawngzela and MPS Secretary HT Hnamtinkhuma reported briefly about the Society’s activities. Pu C. Lalnunkima, Joint Director; Pi K. Vanlalsangi Deputy Director and Nodal Officer, Visual Arts and MPS members attended the function.

The Workshop will cover various aspects and techniques of photography and is being organised by following all mandatory SOPs as laid down by the Government.
