The High Powered Committee (HPC), Lunglei District and the Horticulture Department jointly held a function at Zawlpui village on 14th November,2020 (Saturday) to distribute different varieties of winter vegetable seeds to selected farmers at Zawlpui village in Lunglei District. The initiative is part of HPC Lunglei’s mission mode project to improve agriculture production and productivity within Lunglei District.

Zawlpui village falls under Lungsen Block in Lunglei District, and is located about 70 kms from the District capital, Lunglei town. The village is one of the biggest producers of agriculture and related products in the District, with projects being currently implemented by major Departments such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, AH&VETY etc. Around 65% of families are engaged in farm activities in this village of 360 households.   

Distributing vegetable seeds to the selected beneficiaries, HPC Vice Chairman Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng, MLA informed the gathering that HPC Lunglei, in partnership with Line Departments would continue working in earnest for farmers’ welfare across the District. He advised farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices and refrain from indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides etc.

HPC Lunglei had earlier this year, distributed Rs. 3 lakhs worth of vegetable seeds to farmers in the District to help them tide over the economic crisis arising from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Other initiatives to boost farmers’ income have also been recently introduced under the Agriculture, Fisheries, AH&Vety, Commerce & Industries Departments.

Pu L.Lalhmingmawia Pachuau, DHO, Lunglei District chaired the program. Pu Tlangtimawia Zote DAO, Pi Laldinpuii EE, Irrigation & Water Resources Department were also in attendance.
