Dated Serchhip, the 24th March, 2021: World TB Day, 2021 was observed today at Serchhip MJA Conference Hall, it was organised by the National TB Elimination Programme, Serchhip district, Dr. Laldawngliana, Chief Medical Officer was the Chief Guest of the function.

The Chief Guest highlighted that Tuberculosis was discovered around 130 years back and the anniversary of that discovery is marked as World TB day thereon. Presently, around 4000 people have lost their valuable lives due to TB and that 7000 cases are detected daily. He further mentioned that in modern times with the discovery of proper treatment and medication the disease is no longer a fatal illness. The Government of India has also taken an initiative to eliminate this disease from the country by 2030. 

Dr. Lalhlunpuii, DTO also gave a speech with a report on the present status of Serchhip district. This year 24 patients obtained their TB treatment and 23 of them have already recovered while one patient unfortunately died due to the disease.

Mr. Lalsiamthara, Serchhip Bazar locality, a survivor of TB also delivered his speech about how he could defeat the disease with the help of the health department.

Today’s ceremony was attended by invitees in Serchhip town.
