16 Probationers of the 70th IPS Batch who are currently undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy met with the Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla at his office today. These IPS probationers are currently in Mizoram as part of their training schedule, and will visit Assam and Meghalaya in the following week.

The Chief Minister of Mizoram, in his interaction with the young officers shared the history and culture of Mizoram, as well as development programmes and policies undertaken thus far. Commenting on the issue of segregation that often crop up with regard to residents of the North East states and that of 'mainland states', the Chief Minister opined that since every state is a part of India, it is natural that we all make efforts to know about the various diverse cultures that make up a great country, and this is especially crucial for those holding important posts in the government. He also praised the course coordinators for including a trip to Northeast states as part of the training program. The Chief Minister stated that the Officers will have a heavy responsibility in the future and wished for them to be able to face any challenges head on. He advised that while the main responsibility of an IPS Officer may be to uphold law and order, they should keep in mind the sentiments of the people, wherever they may be posted.

The 16 IPS Probationers are headed by their Course Coordinator from the Academy, and they belong to Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala and AGMUT Cadres. There are currently a total of 120 trainees in the current batch of IPS Probationers at the Academy.
