The 6th Anniversary of Mizoram State Anti-Tobacco Day is observed at Chief Medical Officers’ Conference Hall, Serchhip and Pi. Sangchhin Chinzah Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the district Anti-Tobacco Committee graced the function as Chief Guest.

In this anniversary function, the Chief Guest said that, “one must be able to defend himself from consuming of tobacco and other intoxicating items to live a happy and healthy life. Present day generation are being blessed with a flood of informing and educating the negative impacts of those tobacco” She also added that, a student should be compulsorily free from all the unhealthy consumption of it. She give away a felicitation Certificates to four selected schools for their initiatives in Tobacco free Educational Institution during the last two years.

In the programme, Dr. Lalhlunpuii, District Nodal Officer, NTCP deliver a power point presentation on the subject of “Tobacco & healthy lung” to the crowd. She expresses the impact of tobacco in Mother and its repercussion to the infant inside her womb and other vital information about tobacco consumption for human being.

K. Hmingthansangi, District Consultant, NTCP Serchhip also give a reports on the activities of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Serchhip for the period of 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. As many as 400 aspirant quitter are being given a cessation clinical treatment,  45 awareness programme among 127 institutions and other NGOs have been organized, more than a hundred  Anti-Tobacco Squad Drive have been operated and 199 violators were given penalty. Their total fines gross to Rs. 11,020 from those drives. Besides, a number of Joint Operations with Legal Metrology department on ‘Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Product Act (COPTA) and Packaging of Commodities Act’ have been organized during the said period. 

The event is chaired by Dr. Laldawngliana Sailo, CMO Serchhip district.
