Mizoram State’s Sports Minister Pu Zodintluanga distributed incentive cash award to 890 sports persons today at a ceremony held at Lal Thanhawla Auditorium, Aizawl.  

The Sports Minister, who graced this function as Chief Guest, urged the young people of Mizoram to pursue their dreams with action, determination and dedication. He said that athletes from Mizoram had performed exceptionally well in different arenas, within and outside the country. A number of Mizo athletes represented and earned laurels for the country which, the Minister Pu Zodintluanga said, was due to the efforts of the athletes and the support they receive from the State Government and their respective Sports Associations.

Sports Incentive Cash Award was distributed to medal winners for the year 2016-18 totaling a sum of Rs.1,73,00,000. Within a span of two years, athletes from Mizoram won 136 medals in different international events, 607 national level medals and 151 medals at the regional level. Among the awardees, 22 athletes received a sum of Rs.2 lakhs and above, while 30 persons were awarded Rs.1 lakh.
