Minister of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary (AH & Vety) Department, Government of Mizoram, Dr K. Beichhua visited Mampui Vety Farm, Lawngtlai District today.

The Minister first visited the ongoing construction of the Veterinary Hospital building at Lawngtlai, which is being funded by Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) with an estimate amount of Rs 85 lakhs. It is contracted to AIE Construction, Aizawl and about 70% of works has been completed.

The Minister was accompanied by Addl Director, AH & Vety Dr H. Laltlanmawia, Members of LADC and other officials in his visit to Mampui Vety Farm. They were received by Lawngtlai District AH & Vety Officer Dr Thanseia Chhangte, Mampui Vety Farm's Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Lalthankhumi, Veterinary Officer Dr Charlie Chawngthu and other staff. AH & Vety Minister Dr K.Beichhua inspected poultry hatchery, calf rearing centre and piglet multiplication centre in the Farm. 

In his interaction with department officials and staff, Dr K. Beichhua said that the state government is committed towards the growth of economy in the state in which AH & Vety Department will continue to play a vital role. He also highlighted that Veterinary Hospitals are under construction in 7 districts of Mizoram; and also, Lawngtlai Dispensary and Chawngte Rural Animal Health Centre have both been upgraded to Hospital and Dispensary respectively.

In November 2020, in the poultry hatchery at Mampui Vety Farm, 800 chicklets hatched from 960 eggs with 83.3% of success rate. If regularly and smoothly run, the hatchery is expected to meet the demand of chicklets in Siaha and Lawngtlai District.

There are currently 8 calves and 6 cows in the calf rearing and breeding centre. After a break due to a severe PRRS attack, it is also expected that the piglet multiplication centre will be able to recontinue work soon.
