Awareness Workshop For Artisans And Weavers Cum Spot Purchase Of Handlooms And Handicrafts which is sponsored by the North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Shillong was organized today in collaboration with The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC) and Women’s Polytechnic, Aizawl at Hotel Regency for the local artisans, weavers, Entrepreneurs etc and students of Women’s Polytechnic, Aizawl.

The Programme was inaugurated by Shri Prasant Kumar Jha, OSD to the Hon’ble Minister of DoNER, Govt of India in presence of Ms. R. Lalrodingi, Adviser, BIT, North Eastern Council, Ms. Susan R Ralte, Lecturer ,Women’s Polytechnic, Aizawl, Mr C. Ramhluna, Vice Chairman, Mizoram Industrial Development Board, Dr. S Chaudhari, Managing Director, Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre and Mr. Dhiraj Thakuria, Managing Director, NEHHDC.

The Technical Session of the event was attended by Mr. Lalhruaizela Fanai, Branch Manager NEDFI, Mr. H Lalchamrela, District Project Manager, NERLP, Mr S. K. Sen, Asstt Director, Weavers Service Centre, Mr C.Lalrinmawia, Cluster Development Officer, Commerce & Industries Department, Govt, of Mizoram, Mr Laldinliana Chhangte (Dina), Secretary, Mizoram Bamboo Industries Association. 

The Programme was Chaired by Ms R Lalrodingi Adviser,BIT, North Eastern Council, Shillong.

The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC) was incorporated in the year 1977 with its Registered office at Shillong, Meghalaya. The NEHHDC is a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. The mandate of the Corporation is promotion and Development of Handicrafts and Handlooms of the North Eastern Region. The Corporation since its inception has been spearheading various activities viz., Training and Capacity Building, Workshops and Seminars, R&D activities, Marketing and Exports.

As part of its on going activities, the Corporation has been organizing Awareness Workshops for artisans and weavers cum spot purchase of handlooms and handicrafts in all the North East India states. The Corporation has already organised six Awareness Workshops at various places of North East. This Awareness Cum Workshop Programme at Aizawl is the sixth event in the row during this current financial year. The objective of the Awareness Programme is to make aware of the various schemes and programs of the Government amongst the artisans and weavers for their benefits. Through such programmes the Corporation also procures the handicraft and handloom products produced by the artisans and weavers on the spot to encourage them to scale up the production activity to meet the market demand in the country and abroad. The artisans and weavers are also invited to participate in various marketing events organised by the Corporation in various towns and cities of the country and the Corporation provides necessary handholding supports.
