Official MBA Ranking Tournament and CDBA Age Category Badminton tournament, Champhai Open 2019 got underway yesterday at Champhai Town Hall. The inaugural ceremony held yesterday was attended by Dr Naveen Aggarwal IAS, Deputy Commissioner Champhai as the Chief guest. The tournament is joinly organized by Champhai District Badminton Association (CDBA) and Mizoram Badminton Association (MBA).
Speaking at the inaugural programme Dr Naveen Aggarwal heartily welcomed all the Badminton lovers and players who have come from nooks and corners of the State. He opined that the Mizos are sports loving community, good at all sports disciplines and Badminton in particular. He further mentioned the works being implemented by Tata Trust nodal organization, North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) and Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy (PGBA) in promoting Badminton in the State through multi level training intiatives and urged the leaders to keep in contact and approach the organizations for upliftment of talented local players. He expressed his dream to see Mizo boys and girls representing India at international level and bring laurels for the community and for the country. He also expressed his hope and desire to make a better relationship and integration of Mizos and rest of the Country through Badminton.
The short inaugural programme was chaired by Pu Lalnunmawia, President, CDBA while Pu Paul Zakhuma, Gen Secretary & Organizing Secretary had an introductory speech. Pu H.Rothangliana, Sr. Vice President & Organizing Chairman welcomed all the players which was immediately followed by the play at three Badminton Courts inside Champhai Town Hall.
As per report 226 Shuttlers across the State entered their names for the esteemed MBA Ranking and also CDBA Age group Champhai Open 2019. The Champhai Open will witness competition of MBA Official Ranking Categories; Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and also CDBA Non Ranking Categories for different age group. The tournament will conclude on October 4.
