There has been an outbreak of a new viral disease at Lungsen village, Tlabung sub-division, Lunglei District killing more than 116 pigs since 21 st March, 2021.

Chief Veterinary Officer, Tlabung has declared the entire Lungsen Village as “Infected Zone” with effect from 1st April, 2021 under Section 20 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious disease in Animal Act 2009.

Sub Divisional Magistrate, Tlabung Sub-Division has issued prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC 1973 prohibiting movement of Pigs and Pig products in and out of Lungsen village for two months with effect from 2nd April, 2021.

All the ground reports and laboratory evidence indicated the cause of the present outbreak is new viral diseases suspected to be African Swine Fever, which has not yet been encountered previously in the State.

In exercise of the power conferred by Section (6) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act 2009, the Governor of Mizoram hereby notify the entire area of Lunglei District excluding Lungsen Village as Controlled/ Surveillance Zone/Area in order to contain and prevent the spread of the present disease outbreak highly suspected to be African Swine Fever with immediate effect and until further order.
