Commerce & Industries Minister Dr R. Lalthangliana visited Zorinpui in Lawngtlai District today to inspect the proposed site for Land Custom Station (border trade centre). He was accompanied by Pu C. Ramhluna, Vice Chairman, C&I Development Board; Pu P. Jawahar, IAS, Secretary, C&I Department and other C&I Department officials from Aizawl, and Dr Andrew H. Vanlaldika, Deputy Commissioner; Pu Manghmung Chinzah, Chief Executive Member, LADC; members of LADC and officials from LADC and state government from Lawngtlai.

A land lease for the site of the Land Custom Station measuring 85 bighas (11.3850 hectares) was handed over to the Government of Mizoram's Commerce & Industries Department by the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC)'s Revenue Department. A copy of the land lease was received by the Minister from the hands of Pu Hre Kung, Executive Member i/c Revenue, LADC. The site is located within village council area of Zochachhuah, adjacent to Myanmar border river near KMMTTP highway. The land lease is for the period of 99 years.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Rs 54 crores for Land Custom Station at Zorinpui was already prepared by NBCC (consultant) and submitted to the Government of India. A Temporary Immigration Check Post is planned to be established shortly for facilitating the movement of men & materials from Indian side of the border.

Besides inspecting the site for Land Custom Station, the Minister also discussed the progress of construction of 2 lane road from Paletwa in Myanmar to Zorinpui in India (109.200 kms) with the contractors. The work is being executed by Engineering Projects (India) Ltd and C&C Construction Ltd. Out of 109.200 kms road to be constructed, jungle clearance for 95 kms, plan & profile design for 45 kms, pathway construction for 38 kms and laying of subgrade for 14.860 kms have been completed so far.
