Aizawl, the 05th December 2024: The State-Level Campaign on “Cooperation Among Cooperatives” was officially launched today at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Campus, Durtlang, Aizawl, by Pu PC Vanlalruata, Minister for Cooperation, Agriculture, Irrigation, and Water Resources. The Minister kick-started the campaign by releasing the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) on ‘Cooperation among Co-operatives.’
Cooperation Minister Pu PC Vanlalruata, in his keynote address, emphasized the importance of the cooperative movement in achieving rural prosperity. He noted that Mizoram has immense potential to expand its cooperative coverage, currently at 4% of the population, compared to 12-26% in other North Eastern states. The Minister highlighted several initiatives under the Ministry of Cooperation, such as the formation of over 2 lakh Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (MPACS) nationwide and Mizoram’s efforts to form MPACS in 750 uncovered villages. He urged stakeholders to work collaboratively to realize the vision of "Sahkar se Samriddhi" (Prosperity through Cooperation).
Pu Liangsangzuala, Joint Secretary, Department of Cooperation, Pu John LT Sanga, Registrar of Cooperative Societies(RCS), Ms. Pankaja Borah, General Manager/OIC, NABARD, Mizoram, Pu A Lallungmuana, CEO of Mizoram Cooperative Apex Bank (MCAB) delivered speeches highlighting the role played by Cooperative Sector in the rural economy and the need for further strengthening the sectors for uplifting the village economy.
A presentation on Cooperation among Cooperatives and the way forward was made by Pu T Guite, DGM, NABARD, Mizoram and the actions required to be taken by stakeholders so that the Campaign for Cooperation Among Cooperatives a success in Mizoram.
The campaign launch marks a significant milestone in Mizoram’s cooperative movement. It aims to build a robust ecosystem of cooperatives contributing to financial inclusion, inclusive economic development, and rural prosperity. NABARD’s pivotal role in promoting cooperative institutions and providing financial and technical support was acknowledged by the Cooperation Minister.
As the year 2025 has been declared the International Year of Cooperatives, this campaign is expected to sustain momentum and create impactful outcomes for the cooperative sector in Mizoram.
The NABARD, Mizoram Regional and the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) Office, Government of Mizoram jointly organised the event. The program commenced with Ms. Pankaja Borah, General Manager/OIC, NABARD, Mizoram who delivered a welcome and keynote address enlightening the officials and PACS on the event's objectives. Pu Liangsangzuala, Joint Secretary, Department of Cooperation, Pu John LT Sanga, Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS), Ms. Pankaja Borah, General Manager/OIC, NABARD, Mizoram, Pu A Lallungmuana, CEO of Mizoram Cooperative Apex Bank (MCAB), and other senior officials of NABARD and Government of Mizoram and PACS functionaries were present at this event.
