The Cooperation Minister of Mizoram, Pu C. Lalrinsanga yesterday inaugurated the Lunglei Special Handloom Expo at the Convention Centre, Lunglei. Jointly organized by the Central Government’s Ministry of Textiles and Mizoram Apex Handloom & Cooperative Society Ltd (MAHCO), the Expo has 24 handloom industries participating, and is scheduled to wind up on Friday (7th August 2020).

Deputy Commissioner of Lunglei District Pu V. Lalsangliana, IAS was the Guest of Honour at this event. In attendance were Lunglei HPC Vice Chairman Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng, Government officials, media persons and representatives of various NGOs. The grand inaugural function had a Handloom Fashion Show organized by renowned Mizo textile designer Charlee Mathlena. Mizo gospel singer Pensy B.Lalthangliani also performed at the event.

Inaugurating the Lunglei Special Handloom Expo, the Cooperation Minister expressed hope that the event would serve as a platform for further development and expansion of the State’s handloom industry, an intrinsic component of the State’s socio-cultural tradition. He invited the citizens of Lunglei to come enjoy the Special Expo and celebrate the rich fabric heritage of the State while supporting local businesses. He also called upon the weavers and handloom industry owners to constantly work towards improving their fabric quality and updating their designs.
