Dated: Aizawl the 30th of May: As of March 2024, ASF outbreak has been reported in the State which has led to the death of large number of pigs. A similar situation of outbreak of ASF was also reported back in 2022.

As the spread of the disease could be a disaster for farmers engaged in livestock sector leading to irreparable economic loss to the livestock sector, it is necessary to take all possible measures for the prevention of further spread of the disease.

Therefore, the Chief Secretary Dr Renu Sharma in her capacity as the Chairman, State Executive Committee, Mizoram State Disaster Management Authority, and in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 24(1) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 hereby orders that the following preventive measures shall be strictly followed with immediate effect and until further orders: -

1. There shall be a complete ban on import of live pigs, fresh pork and all other pork products including frozen pork from other States and other countries until further orders. 

2. Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Government of Mizoram shall ensure mandatory disinfection of pig-rearing premises and enforce strict hygiene measures and isolation of suspected pigs. 

3. Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Government of Mizoram shall undertake to ensure safe disposal of pig carcass in accordance with the 'National Action Plan for Control, Containment and Eradication of African Swine Fever'. 

4. Intensive physical surveillance and immediate reporting of any unusual mortality of pigs or wild pigs to the Department Helpline No. 1962, 9366984867, 9436142908 and 9436140179 should be affected. 

The above steps shall be taken in accordance with the “National Action Plan for Control, Containment and Eradication of African Swine Fever”
