Aizawl, Dated 31st May 2025: The Disaster Management & Rehabilitation (DM&R) Department has been actively carrying out monitoring and relief operations in areas where widespread damage occurred following the intense rainfall that began on 24th May 2025.
This morning, Prof. Lalnilawma, Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Minister, visited the State Emergency Operation Centre at the Directorate of Disaster Management & Rehabilitation in Chawnpui, Aizawl, to monitor and oversee the extent of the damages and to plan further relief strategies.
The State EOC was commanded by Smt K. Lalrinzuali, DM&R Secretary, Smt Zarzokimi, DM&R Joint Secretary, Shri R. Vanrengpuia, DM&R Director, I&PR Officer and other departmental staff. They gave spot inspection of various locations affected by the disasters with Aizawl City area.
Prof. Lalnilawma expressed his deep concern regarding the damage caused by natural calamities across Mizoram. He assured that the government, through the DM&R Department, is carrying out relief efforts to the best of its ability.
While condoling the affected families and especially of those who lost their relatives in the disaster, he announced that families affected by the disasters would receive relief and assistance. He also announced that the government plans to provide Ex Gratia payments of ₹4 lakh to the kin of citizens who have lost their lives due to the natural disaster.
The DM&R Minister noted that it is comforting to see "tlawmngaihna" in action during this critical time, and commended the many individuals, volunteers, and organizations selflessly aiding others despite risks to their own safety. He appealed to the public to continue supporting the department and to contact the staff for assistance without hesitation, as and when necessary.
Members of the Aizawl District Disaster Management Authority, local leaders and volunteer group leaders also visited various disaster-hit areas within Aizawl alongside the DM&R Minister and department officials.
Due to the heavy rainfall, machinery from multiple PHE pump houses have been relocated to safety. Prof. Lalnilawma urged the public to practise judicious use of water and rainwater harvesting as there is a possibility that water distribution may be hampered due to high levels of mud contamination in the Tlawng river.
