Lawngtlai, the 16th November, 2020: A meeting of Lawngtlai District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) was held today at DC's Conference Hall, Lawngtlai to discuss proposal for setting up of Plastic Waste Collection Centre (PWCC) at Lawngtlai.
Lawngtlai DC & Chairman, DWSM Dr Andrew H. Vanlaldika stressed on the need for proper plastic waste management to ensure a healthy and clean environment. Setting up of PWCC under DWSM would prove to be a great asset for Lawngtlai District in achieving green environment goals, he added. He also asked for the support and cooperation of other line departments wherever convergence is required for the project to succeed.
Sub-Divisional Officer of PHED Lawngtlai WATSAN Division, Er T. Mangliandinga explained the concept of PWCC and requirements of the project. The meeting then resolved to approach the concerned authority of Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) for allocation of required land for the project.
The PWCC is a provision under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) in which plastic waste that can be recycled/re-used should be collected, processed and sold off to buyers for recycling and re-use. It will have an enclosure for temporary storage of plastic waste, segregation facility, plastic baling machine and a building for its housing, power supply and sufficient parking for vehicles. A plot of land measuring around 1500 sqm area is envisaged for setting up of the PWCC.
