Today the Hon’ble Food and Civil Supply Minister Mr. John Rotluangliana launched the much awaited National Food Security Act 2013 at Vanapa Hall to be implemented from 1st march 2016 this morning. He was accompanied by several other ministers and parliamentary secretary of the state government. The programme was chaired by Mr Hrangtawna Food & Civil Supply Secretary, Government of Mizoram.

As envisaged the Hon’ble Minister said that a population of 7,06,296 will be covered by this Act which shall comprise of 81% rural population and 48% urban population of Mizoram. The beneficiaries shall include AAY Household with a provision of 35 Kg with a minimal rate of Rs 3 per Kg and Priority Household with a provision of 5 Kg per head with a subsidized rate of Rs 3 per Kg. The Minister also mentioned that all household presently holding Ration Card shall not be covered by this act but only those carefully selected households based on their income level. The amount of grain required under this act shall consist of MT 902.48 for AAY and MT 44,94,364 for Priority Household.
