Aizawl, the 6th November, 2024: The Governor of Mizoram Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, who is the Visitor of ICFAI University presided over the 12th Convocation of ICFAI University held today at the NJ Yasaswy Memorial Auditorium, ICFAI Campus, Durtlang North in Aizawl. The Chief Minister of Mizoram Pu Lalduhoma as the Chief Guest and the Director, Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Padma Shri Dr. Ravi Kannan as the Guest of Honour, were also present at the Convocation.

In his address at the Convocation, the Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed his gratitude for the dedication and challenges faced by students on their journey to this moment, acknowledging the deep pride he felt in their achievements. He emphasized that education is the cornerstone of progress, "It empowers individuals to think critically, act ethically and contribute meaningfully to society". He also encouraged the university students to move forward with confidence and skill, prepared to positively engage with various global events and to overcome challenges they may face. He urged them to pursue careers in different places without hesitation, stepping forward boldly without retreating into their comfort zones. 

The Governor who is also the Visitor of ICFAI University urged students to lead lives of integrity and hard work, aiming to become a blessing to others and to bring positive changes in their paths. He mentioned Prime Minister's vision for India to become a Developed India, Vikshit Bharat by 2047, and noted that this will not be achievable without the inclusion of a Vikshit Mizoram. He underscored the importance of social security schemes, such as the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, which offer insurance coverage up to Rs 2 lakh for annual contributions of Rs. 432 and Rs. 20 only respectively. He also urged the gathering to consider other important centrally sponsored schemes like PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a subsidy-based scheme for installing rooftop solar power system and other schemes to help uplift others as well.

The Chief Minister of Mizoram Pu Lalduhoma, who attended the convocation as the Chief Guest congratulated the students on their achievements. He noted that the convocation ceremony not only marks the recognition of their hard work but also represents a new beginning. He urged them to be courageous in exploring new paths, not only in careers but also in other areas, given their responsibility to contribute to the nation and community. He expressed appreciation for ICFAI University's efforts to address the shortage of higher education seats in Mizoram and encouraged the university to continue expanding and progressing.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Ravi Kannan, Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre encouraged the students to prioritize service to others and to strive to be agents of positive change. He also urged them to pursue healthy lifestyles and make wellness a priority in their lives.

The Vice-Chancellor of ICFAI University, Mizoram, Prof. Bijay Singh, welcomed the gathering with an opening speech, followed by a message from the Chancellor, Prof. Y.R. Haragopal Reddy. The Governor and Visitor of the University, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, awarded the honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Honoris Causa) to Dr. Ravi Kannan in recognition of his impactful and sustainable healthcare services for cancer patients in North East India. The Registrar, Dr. David Lawmzuala, concluded the ceremony with a vote of thanks.

Degrees were awarded to 207 students, among whom 192 were postgraduates and 15 were undergraduates. Medals were also presented to 27 students, including 13 gold medalists and 14 silver medalists.

At the 12th Convocation of ICFAI University, Chairperson of the ICFAI Group, Pi Sobharani Yasaswy, along with other ICFAI Group leaders, faculty, staff, and students' parents, attended the ceremony.

ICFAI University, established in 2006 under the ICFAI Group, currently has 548 students enrolled, with a faculty of 69 (32 regular and 37 visiting faculty) and an administrative staff of 15. The university offers 19 courses in total, with 11 postgraduate (PG) and 8 undergraduate (UG) programs.
