Aizawl, the 27th May 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Smt Darshana Jardosh, the visiting Union Minister of State for Railways discussed the progress of the 51 Km long Bairabi - Sairang Railway line constructed by the North East Frontier Railways (NFR) at the Raj Bhavan this morning.

The top officials of the NFR and the Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (RITES Ltd) were also present at this meeting. After a formal interaction between the Governor and the Union Minister of State, the NFR officials gave a detailed video presentation of the project work in progress.

Governor Hari Babu thanked Smt Darshana Jardosh, the Union MoS of Railways for her dynamic leadership and for being actively involved in the progress of 51 Km long NFR's Bairabi - Sairang Railway line construction project. He assured the Union Minister that the Government of Mizoram and the people fully support this project as it is seen clearly as 'the game changer' for Mizoram state towards growth and development.

Governor said that the project when completed will - cut short the travelling time between Aizawl and Silchar in Assam from 6 - 7 hours to no more than 3 hours, reduce the cost of travelling between Aizawl and Silchar from Rs 1000 plus per passenger to just about Rs 100. Governor also believed that a cheaper mode of transportation at a much less duration due to Railway services will open up unlimited opportunities for economic activities in the state.

Smt Darshana Jardosh, the Union MoS of Railways was also very enthusiastic about the prospects of all the development the 51 Km long Railway Line of Bairabi – Sairang will bring to Mizoram. She said that the railway line constructions, the KMMTTP, the bilateral trade points for Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar and the construction of the National Highways are inter-connected projects which will transform Mizoram into the gateway for trade and also a trade Centre shortly. About the project, she briefed the Governor that the progress is healthy and is expected to be completed within the stipulated time (December 2023 is currently set for the month of completion). She also informed the Governor about the Survey being done for the construction of a railway line from Sairang to the southernmost part of Mizoram.

Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager, NFR, Shri Rahul Mithal, Chairman & Managing Director, RITES Ltd, Shri SS Yadav, CAO (const), NFR, Shri Vinod Kumar, Chief Engineer, NFR and Shri CL Sah, General Manager, RITES were also present in this meeting. As per the presentation given by Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager, NFR Sairang Railway Station when completed will be a ‘world class’ station with the availability of facilities like a low budget hotel, hospital and other tourist facilities. The Officials from RITES Ltd gave a presentation on how their services and technical expertise can be availed for the development of the various components that will be essential to this railway line.
