Governor Vakkom Purushothaman today inaugurated 3 Days National-cum-Workshop to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Mizo Novel jointly organised by Mizo Literature & Language Teachers Academy and Department of Mizo, Mizoram University and sponsored by Central Institute of Indian Language Mysore and ICSSR-NER.

The Governor conveyed his appreciation to the Department of Mizo, MZU and the Mizo Literature & Language Teachers Academy for organising the Seminar-cum-Workshop. He commented that the literary tradition in India is primarily oral literature in vernacular languages and this has been passed on from generation to generation without manuscript and were generally sung or recited. The Governor was happy to note that efforts have also been made to preserve the Mizo rich folklores. He felt the need for translation of the Mizo literature to English so that there is a wider audience for it. The Governor had no doubt that the National Seminar-cum-Workshop would be extremely enlightening and would motivate people more people to come forward with information which have been handed down orally,so that it is recorded in writing for the benefit of the society.

The Governor also released the following books:- World Literature & Capt.L.Z.Sailo by Dr Laltluangliana Khiangte ; A Professor’s Padma Shri by Isaac & Sangzuala ; Rammawi Kalkawng & Duhtak Sangpuii by Khawlkungi ; Mizo Chanchin & Petera Hrilhfiahna by Rev Liangkhaia.

The inaugural function was chaired by Prof Laltluangliana Khiangte. Prof.Kedutso Kapfo,Director Central Institute of Indian Languages,Mysore inaugurated Exhition of old manuscripts,old photos,first print books,original copies of Mizo Novels etc.
