Governor Vakkom Purushothaman today visited Presbyterian Hospital, Durtlang, Aizawl Theological College and TNT Home. He was accompanied by his Wife Dr.Lily and Secretary to Governor Lal Nghinglova,IAS.
The Governor commended the work done by the hospital and hope that in future they will continue the work of caring for the poor and the needy along with caring for other patients. This hospital was started in 1928 with one doctor,one nurse and 14 beds. At the moment, there are 26 doctors, 13 of whom are Specialists, 139 Nursing Staff and 300 beds. The hospital also has 4 outreach centres outside the the hospital campus namely Dr. Fraser’s Clinic, Grace Inn, Millenium Centre Clinic and Marpara Hospital.
In his interaction with students of Aizawl Theological College, the Governor said that he has always regarded the Christian Missionaries highly for their work for the people especially the downtrodden. This institute was started in 1907 and now there are 20 lecturers and 134 students.
At TNT, the Governor told the inmates to always remember that there are Children of God and since they have been brought up as good citizens, he firmly believe that they all will be good citizen and an asset to the society. The Governor donated Rs 15,000 and volley ball and football. At the moment, there are 410 orphans, 240 mentally retarded, addicts 303 and 68 workers.
