Mizoram State Games 2019, a huge sporting event for the state of Mizoram wherein the contingents of 40 MLA constituencies were competing against one another for championship has come to a successful conclusion, today.  Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai had graced the closing programmed held at Assam Rifles' Ground in today's afternoon as Chief Guest.

In his address at the closing function Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai had expressed his delight at the successful conclusion of the State Games 2019 and congratulate the people of the state. He was appreciative that participating 40 Assembly Constituency contingents were ably led by their respective MLAs which he considered as a good example for other states. It is the excellence of the people of the state in the field of sports, he believed is the reason why Mizoram continues to make remarkable achievements in sports. "Despite being a small state, it is astounding that Mizoram is contributing such a huge number of players in the Indian Super League and the I-League. And we all proudly remember the fairytale story when our very own Aizawl FC won the I-League in 2017.  Jeje Lalpekhlua, who plays in the Indian Super League and is a mainstay of the national team, has become a household name in Indian Football. Lalremsiami, who won Silver at the Asian Games 2018 with the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, has even been currently nominated for the Rising Star of the Year by the International Hockey Federation. And our weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga became the first Indian ever to win a Gold Medal in the Youth Olympics in 2018. These are but only a few of the many sportspersons who have brought laurels for Mizoram and for India", he proudly stated. Governor has also said that the current State Games as a follow up of the Mizoram State Sports Policy, having as many as 32 sports disciplines, is a welcome initiative and development exercise for many talented sportspersons. Stressing the importance of Sports in everyday life as the means to combat a number of social vices and unhealthy lifestyle related disease the governor had made an appeal to the people in the state to continue to embrace sports as way of life. By acknowledging promotion of sports to be in line with the Fit India Movement launched by the Prime Minister he gave credits to the  State Government in moving towards the right direction to create a healthy society that is essential to make New India a Fit India. In his conclusion, he congratulated the Sports Department for successfully organizing the Mizoram State Games 2019. And gave his well wishes to all the sportspersons who won medals at the Games for a greater success in the near future for the glory of the state of Mizoram and India.

Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga expressed his great satisfaction that the Mizoram State Games, which was revived after a 34 years gap could be concluded smoothly. He had hinted that the State Games would be organized again in the near future. He had express his firm believe that the Mizoram State Games was a success and expected that this promotional exercise would be  propeling Mizoram fast forward in the world of sports. The Chief Minister had also assured  that more impetus will be given towards development of the games and encouraged the public to continue their support for the same.  

On concluding the biggest sports promotional exercise within the state, Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte had congratulated the people of Mizoram along with  all those involved as player and official for achieving this extraordinary feat that will push the sports ambition of the state to a new high. On belalf of sporting fraternity Shri. Robert Romawia Royte expressed gratitude and indebtedness to Chief Minister Shri. Zoramthanga, Government of Mizoram and also to Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.  He had also expressed his appreciation to Shri Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General, Indian Olympic Association, who despite his best effort to attend the state games had to return unfortunately from Guwahati Airport due to unforseen problem with flights management at the airport.After witnessing the efforts and talents of some athletes he had proudly guaranteed that Mizoram will produce more Olympians, more athletes in Asian Games and at international events  for the country. He has expressed his satisfaction of having witnessed the exposure of a good number of hidden talents at the Games. He had also said that the government will intervene to further promote the identified sportspersons. Reiterating the commitment of Government of Mizoram in making the state as the fittest state  in India he urged the sportspersons to stay away from drinks and drugs. And concluded his speech by saying, " Fit people make fit Nation, Fit Nation makes Developed Nation". 

During the course of this sports promotional event may surprising results were witnessed with the emergence of talented young athletes who would ensure a bright future for Mizoram in many sports discipline. Sports Authority of India(SAI), the apex sport's governing body in the country had also shown a keen interest at this ambitious state level competition by fielding their scouts at various events. In this connection Shri. Sandeep Pradhan, Director General, SAI had also arrived on yesterday to have a firsthand experience of the event. There were 221 events in 32 sports disciplines with the involvements of 7447 athletes, 24 venues and more than  one thousand officials at this sports promotional event in which major games, athletics, combat sports, aquatics and indigenous sports are all included.  The organisers had a tough time but successfully managed the seemingly impossible task of managing logistics, lodging and accommodating the needs of almost eight thousand athletes.  Besides consolidating their chance for representing the state at national level sports meet, the medal winners of this competition are bound to reap the benefits of sports quota for jobs allotments under Government Schemes that was rolled out recently along the lines of the State's Sports Policy.

The Closing Ceremony function was presided over by Shri. H.Lalengmawia. Chief Minister Zoramthanga released the souvenir of Mizoram State Games 2019. The Aizawl East-I constituency contingent bagging 25 Gold, 18 Silver and 16 Bronze Medals was declared the overall Champion of the Mizoram State games 2019, while Aizawl West -I bagging 21 Gold, 10 Silver and 18 Bronze medals and Aizawl East-II bagging 17 Gold, 11 Silver and 23 Bronze medals were declared as First Runners-up and Second Runners-up respectively. Miss Elisian Medai hailing from Lunglei East Constituency who bagged 3 Gold and 1 Silver medals is adjudged the Best Athlete(Women) and Mr Lalsangliana from Aizawl South -I bagging 5 Gold medals is adjudged the Best Athlete(Men) among the 7447 athletes. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Tawnluia, Ministers, MLAs and members of Sporting Fraternity were among those who had attended the closing programme.
