The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Mizoram State Branch observed its 43rd annual conference today at Aijal Club where the Minister for Health and Family Welfare Department Dr.R.Lalthangliana was the Chief Guest. The theme of this year’s conference is “Ending the HIV&AIDS Epidemic: Community by Community”.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the Minister said that the government is committed to advance public health efforts and improve health for all. He encouraged the medical community to revive their efforts and recommit themselves in serving the public.

Established in 1976, the Mizoram State Branch of IMA currently has 750 members out of which 33 are newly inducted. The Mizoram State Branch received two prestigious awards this year, namely the IMA Special Award for Organizing (IMA North East Leaders Meet Conclave) and President Appreciation Award (for IMA Membership Drive Trophy) from the IMA General Headquarters.

The IMA is a voluntary organization where all doctors, whether employed by the government or practising in private, are registered members. The organization looks after the interest of doctors as well as the well being of the community at large. It aims to promote medical and its allied sciences, improve public health and maintain honour and dignity of the medical profession.
