No.246/2020-2021
Aizawl, the 5th October 2020: The newly recruited officers belonging to Mizoram Planning, Economics & Statistical Service (MPESS) had called on Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai at Banquet Hall, Raj Bhavan, and this morning. During this meeting the Governor and the 2020 batch of MPESS accompanied by Dr. Lalrinchhana, Director, and Economics & Statistics Department exchanged interesting ideas on the subjects of development issues and state economic affairs.
During the interactions over High Tea, Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai shared some of his thoughts for development initiatives for Mizoram with the newly recruited state planning officers. He had reiterated that the state officials had more works to do especially in making developmental planning and strategically important Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to draw fund from 10% budgetary assistance earmarked for the development of North-Eastern region. Governor said that the Central government’s allocation of 10% of the country’s budget for the North Eastern States which is contributing only 3.76% of the country’s population is a huge advantage that is not enjoyed by bigger states. But he felt that this special provision is not being properly utilised by developing states like Mizoram for her own advantage. To reach the goal of Self Reliant India – Atma Nirbhar Bharat, Mizoram like other states needs to give more efforts in all sectors that includes Agriculture & Allied Sector. He believed that Mizoram blessed with fertile soil and ideal climate coupled with high literate population has the potential to become a shining example as one of the self-reliant states.
