No.245/2020-2021

Aizawl, 2nd October, 2020 : Rajya Sabha MP Pu K. Vanlalvena visited water harvesting initiatives and programmes being undertaken in Jodhpur and adjoining areas in Rajasthan on 30th September and 1st October. The visit was facilitated by Shri Gajendra Shekhawat, Union Cabinet Minister of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Water Resources  Development and Drinking Water.

Pu K. Vanlalvena expressed his admiration for traditional water harvesting initiatives and techniques being practiced in a water scarce state like Rajasthan that has a very few rivers and water bodies. He  visited various initiatives and schemes being implemented by the Government of Rajasthan in rural areas for provision of potable water as well as water harvesting structures.

He said that Mizoram which receives as much as 2500 mm of rainfall annually has water scarcity problems in the winter months while Rajasthan which receives a meagre rainfall of 370 mm annually has evolved a very efficient water management and harvesting system. He noted that Mizoram has a lot to learn from Rajasthan in this regard.

Pu K. Vanlalvena had earlier met Union Minister of Jal Shakti to pursue  prior discussions held between Chief Minister Shri Zoramthanga and the Union Minister and the visit was a result of this discussion. He also apprised the Union Minister of ongoing water harvesting measures being undertaken at the behest of Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia in schools across the state.
