Kolasib 6th October 2020: A two-day Foundation Course training for the newly elected Village Council members of Kolasib district was organized by the State Institute for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (SIRD & PR), Kolasib at the Extension Training Centre, which was graced by Dr. H.Lalthlangliana, Deputy Commissioner.

Chief Guest Dr. H. Lalthlangliana highlighted on the evolution of and various amendments made to the Lushai Hills District (Village Council) Act, 1953 stating that the Village Councils of Mizoram are fortunate to adopt the Act, which contains important and critical rules encompassing the well-being and development of the people. He also mentioned that the Act and Rules regarding Village Council's duties, power and responsibilities must be thoroughly read and studied in order to implement them proficiently, and therefore urged the newly elected VC members to attend the training heedfully.

The training will comprise of topics such as The Lushai Hills District (Village Council) Act, 1953, Gram Sabha and Social Audit, Mizoram Village (Sanitation) Rules, 2017, Rules relating to Animal Regulations, The Mizoram Forest Act 1955, Act related to Fire Prevention and Office procedures.

The function was chaired by Mr. ZR Thafala, Principal, ETC (K), SIRD & PR, Mr. John Lalmuankima, Faculty (PA) gave a brief description of the training, Mr. ST Lalhmingmawia, DLAO delivered a short speech on the important responsibilities of the VC members and the programme was closed with a vote of thanks by Mrs. T.Lalchhanhimi, Faculty.
