Serchhip the 31st May, 2025 : Continuous heavy rains since May 30 have wreaked havoc across Serchhip District, Mizoram, resulting in significant property damage, road blockages, and one confirmed fatality. 

A landslide in Serchhip town claimed the life of Pu Ramzolura, a resident of P&E Veng. The incident occurred amid ongoing landslides and flooding triggered by incessant rainfall over the past two days. 

The District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC), led by Incident Commander and Additional Deputy Commissioner Pu Lalrinzuala, convened an emergency meeting to coordinate relief and response efforts. District authorities have since visited multiple affected sites across the town. 

Summary of damages within Serchhip town- 

Dinthar Veng: Four houses collapsed; roads blocked by landslides caused by an accompanying earthquake. Several households have been evacuated.

P&E Veng: Three homes destroyed, four families displaced, and four roadblocks reported. One fatality, Pu Ramzolura, confirmed.

Chanmari: Two houses collapsed.

Field Veng: Four families evacuated from their homes.

Tuikhuah Veng: Main road is blocked due to the collapse of a retaining wall. 

Chhim Veng: One house collapsed.

AOC Veng: One family evacuated.

Vengchung: Three families evacuated; eight locations reported as affected.

Hmar Veng: One family evacuated. 

Road condition: Multiple major and minor roads have been rendered impassable due to landslides. The Serchhip–Sailiam road and the National Highway through Tuikhuah Veng are blocked. Serchhip Bypass has suffered severe damage from landslides. Landslides have also been reported on the Chhingchhip–Thentlang and Thentlang–Sialhau roads.

Efforts to clear and repair the roads are underway, though numerous vehicles remain stranded. Official damage assessment reports are still pending. 

Power Supply: The district's electricity supply has been severely affected. Falling trees and landslides have damaged power lines, leaving large parts of Serchhip without electricity. 

District authorities urge residents to remain cautious and follow official advisories as restoration and relief efforts continue.
