Lawngtlai, 1st June 2025: Due to heavy outburst of rainfall, a total of six buildings and one  Assam type house in Chandmary and Bazar areas were collapsed on 30th May 2025 at around 10:45 PM. The Deputy Commissioner Shri. Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, IAS, immediately arrived at the site and under his command and in coordination with Central Young Lai Association (CYLA) an evacuation operation was carried out instantly.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) 3rd IR Battalion, Thingkah, Mizoram Police, Assam Rifles,  Quick Respone Team,  from District Disaster Management  & Rehabilitation and  CYLA Team had spearheaded the evacuation operations. Three persons were trapped inside the collapsed buildings and two of them were  safely evacuated on 31st May at the  forenoon. The last and third person was safely evacutated at around  7: 50 Pm in the night. All of them were taken to District Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

As the  Collapsed buildings have blocked National Highway NH - 2, the work on clearing  debris as well as   highway is on going and will continue as per needed. As clearance work is still underway, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA)  led by Shri. Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, Deputy Commisioner and Chairperson, DDMA has closely monitored the clearance  operations.

As more rainfall has been forecasted for the next seven days, District Emergency Operarion Center (DEOC) is activated and Quick Response Team (QRT) from Disaster Management & Rehabilitation and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)  3rd IR Battalion  are all set to act on any emergency situations.
