26th January, 2022: The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated at Central YLA Playground, Lawngtlai this morning with the Deputy Commissioner Dr Andrew H. Vanlaldika, MCS as a Chief Guest.
As part of the celebration, national flag was hoisted at every government institutions and quarters at sunrise. In the ceremonial function at CYLA playground, the Chief Guest unfurled the national flag and acknowledged the guard of honour presented by the Mizoram Police armed contingent.
Delivering a speech, the Deputy Commissioner applauded the good cooperation between government departments, district councils, churches, media, NGOs and general public in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, and for development and progress of the District, in general. He also highlighted various achievements of the District in the past year.
After delivering his speech, the Chief Guest distributed prizes of cleanliness competition, 2021 and Republic Day, 2022 badminton tournament, appreciation to best workers in combating COVID-19 and to winner of state level declamation contest, 2021 as below:
1. Cleanliness competition under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban):
1) Cleanest hotel: Lairam Hotel-II
2) Cleanest school: Govt Southern Standard Middle School
3) Cleanest locality: Electric Veng, Lawngtlai
4) Cleanest hospital/health care facility: District Hospital, Lawngtlai
5) Cleanest government office: Executive Engineer office, P&E Lawngtlai Power Division
6) Cleanest market: Chandmary Market (received by Chandmary Chawhmeh Zuar Association, Lawngtlai)
7) Special Award: In recognition of their yearlong cleanliness - Land Resources, Soil & Water Conservation Department, Lawngtlai.
2. Best medical workers in combating COVID-19:
1) Best Supervisor in “COVID-19 Vaccination”: Pi V. Biaknemi, Health Supervisor, Bungtlang Main Centre
2) Best Community Health Officer in Combating COVID-19 in Lawngtlai District: Dr Isaac Lalnunpuia, CHO, Parva Health & Well Centre

The ceremonial function was attended by Pu V. Zirsanga, Chief Executive Member of the Lai Autonomous District Council and Pu DKS Singh, IPS, Superintendent of Police, elected members of LADC, state and district council officials, ex-servicemen, leaders of NGOs and political parties, media personnel and recipients of prizes. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, there was no ceremonial parade nor VIP At Home. As part of the celebration, the District Republic Day Celebration Committee presented a gift of Rs 2,000/- each to District Hospital Lawngtlai, Christian Hospital Lawngtlai, Lairam Christian Medical Centre & Hospital, Lairam Motherless Home and District Jail.
