The newly re-constituted Lunglei District Road Protection Squad held its first meeting yesterday at the office chamber of its Chairman Lunglei DC Pu Kulothungan A. The squad comprises of members from the District administration, Police, PWD, PHED, LR&S, Transport, UD&PA, I&PR, LAD, Sub Hqrs YMA and Lunglei District Village Council Association.

The squad is entrusted with inspecting and taking action against illegal encroachment of public roads and footpaths in Lunglei District.

The meeting decided that the squad would be divided into two teams that will conduct inspections across Lunglei town on a monthly basis. Area of operation will be subsequently expanded as per requirements across the District. During the inspections/drives, VC and YMA Members will accompany the Road Protection Squad Teams. Those found guilty of encroaching on the roads will be issued on the spot notices/fines as applicable.

The Road Protection Squad Drive is expected to commence from this month itself.
