The Lunglei Town Surveillance (CCTV) Project, developed with a view to fostering a secure and safer town was inaugurated on Friday (01/11/2019) at the SP Office Lunglei by the High Powered Committee Vice Chairman Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng. The inaugural program, chaired by Lunglei SP Pu C. Lalthanmawia was attended by Government officials, Lunglei police functionaries and mediapersons.


Terming the newly unveiled Project as a significant milestone for Lunglei District, the HPC Vice Chairman took the opportunity to thank the entire Lunglei Police fraternity, praising them for their hard work and dedication towards the safety and welfare of citizens. He also thanked the late HPC Vice Chairman Pu S.Laldingliana under whose leadership the Surveillance Project was initiated. He invited the Police and citizens alike to maintain the equipments with care, and protect them from thieves and miscreants.


With the inauguration of the Rs.1.50 crores Town Surveillance (CCTV) Project, Lunglei is now the second town/city in Mizoram to have a round-the-clock CCTV surveillance system, after the Aizawl City Surveillance Project, developed in 2015.  Initial survey for the project was carried out in February,2018 after which the Mizoram Home Department issued a notice inviting tenders in June 2018, in which RS Traders, Aizawl was selected. Installation work was carried out in two phases - 1st phase (23rd August 2018 – 13th November 2018) and 2nd phase (13th – 28th June, 2019) in which 38 surveillance appliances were put up in 20 locations across the town. The Control Room is set up in the SP Lunglei Office premises.
