Mizo Meet 2011 was held today at Churachandpur, Manipur with the Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla gracing the event as Chief Guest. Along with him, Mizoram Cabinet Ministers H.Rohluna (Environment & Forests, FCS & Consumer Affairs) and P.C.Zoramsangliana (Art & Culture, Transport, Prtg. & Stnry.) attended the Meet as Guests of Honour. Mizoram Parliamentary Secretaries Lalrinmawia Ralte (HOme, etc.) and Chawngtinthanga (Education, Law, etc.) were also present at the Meet as Special Guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla reiterated that the main priorities of his goverment were poverty alleviation, fighting against corruption, ushering in all-round development in the state with focus on education and encouraging the youth in pursuing careers in sports and military. Among other key agendas, he also mentioned development of roads and railways in Mizoram and new airport in Southern Mizoram as well as construction of sea-port and hydro-projects to meet the requirements of the state. Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla also expressed his heartfelt desire to unite the different Mizo entities from different regions including Manipur, Tripura, Tahan in Burma, etc. under one umbrella and hopefully in the future, under one political unity. He also encouraged the gathering to live peacefully with each other and be an example for others to follow.

The Mizo Meet, which sees the coming together of all Zo tribes to enhance fraternity among themselves, as well as to discuss inter- and intra- tribe issues, was a sounding success. Among the other dignitaries and leaders who attended the Meet were T. Phungzathang, Minister (Power, Hort, Science & Tech.), Manipur; T.N. Haokip, Minister (PHED, IPR & Tourism), Manipur as Guests of Honour. Other Special Guests were T. Sangkunga, President, Central Young Mizo Association and James Thanghmingmawia, President, Mizo Zirlai Pawl General Hqrs.
