A contingent consisting of 164 persons from Mizoram (64 from Sports & Youth Services Department; 36 from Nehru Yuva Kendra and 42 from National Service Scheme) is participating in 3rd North East Youth Festival being held in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The three day Festival which began today will showcase the diverse cultures, ethnic cuisines and various other facets of the tribal life in the region besides having other competitive and non-competitive events.
The Festival which is organized annually by the Ministry of Sports & Youth Services, Government of India aims to bring the youths of North East India to a common platform to exchange ideas and views and build stronger bonds among the states.
In a noteworthy sporting achievement, Zoramsanga, a mountaineer sponsored by the Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Mizoram took part in the Mt. Gorichen Climbing Expedition which was organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Government from 22 September – 25 October, 2012. He became the first person from Expedition to scale the 6488 metres high peak. Zoramsanga will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1.00 lakh by the Arunachal Pradesh Government, who will utilize his services for sometime as a support staff in mountaineering. He has also been selected for another mountaineering expedition to scale Mt. Everest.
