Aizawl, the 2nd October, 2026: On the occasion of the 157th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, observed as Gandhi Jayanti, the Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), along with senior dignitaries of the Mizoram Government, paid floral tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at MINECO, Aizawl this morning. 

Among those present at the solemn ceremony were Home Minister Mr. K. Sapdanga, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Mr. C. Lalsawivunga, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Mr. Lalthansanga, School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, Information, Public Relations, Printing & Stationery Minister Mr. B. Lalchhanzova and Rural Development & Administration Minister Prof. Lalnilawma. 

The event was attended by senior officials, including Chief Secretary Mr. Khilli Ram Meena, DGP Mr. Sharad Agarwal and other senior government officials, who joined in honoring Gandhi’s enduring legacy and principles, widely revered across Mizoram.

Following the tribute, the Governor and officials participated in a cleanliness drive under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, sweeping the premises as a mark of respect for Mahatma Gandhi’s lifelong emphasis on cleanliness, hygiene and selfless public service.
