Home Minister Pu Lalchamliana yesterday kicked off  the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) Category II International Paragliding Accuracy Championship 2020 Mizoram at Serchhip.

 

 

Speaking at the inaugural function, Pu Lalchamliana pointed that Mizoram was blessed to have such a site capable of hosting a popular adventure sports like paragliding and that too at an international scale. He commented that adventure sports require not just skill and training but need immense courage, emotional strength and the dream to go beyond one’s inherent physical abilities. He expressed hope that more Mizo youths would take up paragliding since this adventure sports embodies the best of what Mizo youths are capable of and would yield positive results very soon, he added. He thanked the participants from other countries as well as from across the country for making the event possible and enlisted their support in making the Championship a grand success. He also expressed his gratitude to the Sports Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte for his tireless efforts in the making the Championship a reality and his support for its success.

 

 

Pu C. Lalramzauva, Sr. Advocate, Adviser to CM also delivered a speech on the occasion.

 

Pu V. Lalengmawia, Director, Tourism Department, chaired the inaugural function. Pu J. Vanlalliana, President, MASA who delivered a report of the championship mentioned that 25 pilots were competing as of now and some more pilots are expected to reach tomorrow, he added. Though 67 pilots registered for the championship, many could not make it to the opening gala. The Championship will commence tomorrow and close on Saturday.

 

Pi Esther Lalruatkimi, IRS, Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism, Dr. Lalzirmawia Chhangte, IAS, DC, Serchhip; Mr. R. Sathyiasundaram, IPS, SP Serchhip officers invitees from Serchhip town, officers & staff of Tourism Department; MASA office bearers, media, village leaders and other invitees attended the opening ceremony of the event.
