Dr. Aziz Qureshi was sworn in as the 15th Governor of Mizoram today. He was administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy by newly appointed Judge of Gauhati High Court, Justice Michael Zothankhuma at a short and solemn function held at the Raj Bhawan today evening at 4 PM at the Durbar Hall. Earlier the Chief Secretary Shri Lalmalsawma read out the Warrant of Appointment.

The swearing in ceremony of the Governor was attended by the Chief Minister Shri Lal Thanhawla, Speaker of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly Shri Hiphei, various Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs including high ranking officials of the Central and State Governments.

Dr. Aziz Qureshi was born on 3rd February 1940 in Bhopal. By profession he is a lawyer and has obtained his education from Hamidia College, Bhopal; Agra University; Vikram University, Ujjain and Bhopal University. He is a scholar who has obtained MA (Political Science), MA (Arabic), MA (Urdu Literature), LL.B. and Ph. D (Political Science) degrees and has also been conferred D.Lit. (Honoris Causa) by Aligarh Muslim University.

Prior to his appointment as the Governor of Mizoram, Dr. Aziz Qureshi was the Governor of Uttarakhand from 15th May 2012 to 30th December 2013. From June 22, 2014 to 22 July 2014 he also held the charge of the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

He also been the Founder Vice Chairman of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Chairman, Govt. of India’s Urdu University Committee for the establishment of Central Urdu University in India.
