Serchhip District Magistrate Smt. Sangchhin Chinzah issued an order of prohibition for import and transaction of Pigs and Pork (any form) from the neighbouring States/ Countries and Districts yesterday.

Sangchhin Chinzah stated that the prohibition order was issued after deliberate discussion of letter about PRRS from the District AH & Vety Officer. It was suspected that the virus of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) has not yet been obliterated within the district.

Therefore, in exercise of the powers under section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the District Magistrate issued a prohibition order for importing and transaction of pigs and pork items from neighbouring states/countries and districts to Serchhip District.

The order shall come into force and shall be effective with immediate effect for the period of two months from 25th September, 2019.

Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under Section 188 of IPC.
