UD&PA Minister Zodintluanga as Chief Guest graced 'Awareness Meet on Empowerment of BPL Trainees under SJSRY through Development of Micro Enterprises' function held, under the aegis of UD&PA and Mizoram Entrepreneurship Network (MEN) at Chanmari YMA's Hall, here today.
Addressing the gathering of outgoing trainees under SJSRY, Minister pointed out that as per 2001 census, out of her 285.35 millions urban population India has 61.8 million BPL populations. Dwelling upon urban BPL population the Minister said that Central and State Government have never neglected urban poor and undertaken various schemes for their well being. Ministry of Housing & Urban Alleviation at the Central and UD&PA Department at Mizoram respectively are the glaring proof of Central and State government's commitments to the urban poor, added the Minister.
Minister highlighted that SJSRY (Swarna Jaynati Rozgar Yojana) stands for Golden Jubilee Urban Employment Scheme as it was constituted to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Independence. Government of India established SJSRY for the up-liftment of urban poor in December, 1997. Minister further said that prior to this SJSRY scheme, Government of India had implemented various schemes for the up-liftment of urban poor, under different Heads. He informed the gathering of trainees that SJSRY Scheme has been undertaken in all the District Capitals of Mizoram, and he exhorted trainees to stand on their own feet by utilizing the various skills they had acquired at training; and he was of hopeful that the various skills imparted during the training will stand them in good stead while trying to come out of their steep of poverty.
Director,UD&PA P. Lalchhuanga, MCS, presided over the function and Guest of Honor P. Lianhrima,MCS,Secretary,UD&PA distributed certificates to 540 successful trainees.
