The Right to Information (RTI) Week 2019 which is to be observed from 5th to 12th October was inaugurated for Lawngtlai District by Pi Shashanka Ala, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Lawngtlai at DC's Conference Hall today.

Pi Shashanka Ala pointed out the importance of well-informed citizens for the government to receive better cooperation in implementing its policies, schemes and all developmental works and encouraged the students to be inquisitive so that they may be a well-informed citizen. She asked the officials to ensure all relevant informations are disseminated to the public, while also mentioning the importance of using RTI Act in such a way that it would not hinder the performance of duty by government departments.

The inaugural function was chaired by Pi Rochuangkimi Khenglawt, MCS, Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar). Pu C. Lalhruaitluanga, MIS, DIPRO Lawngtlai gave a PowerPoint presentation on the RTI Act 2005 and the Mizoram RTI Rules, 2010. This was followed by a session of discussion and questions and answers.

RTI Week has been observed since 2011 during 5th to 12th October every year. Today's programme was attended by State Public Information Officers (SPIO) and State Assistant Public Information Officers (SAPIO) of various departments under LADC and state government, representatives of NGOs, and teachers and students of Jehova Jire Higher Secondary School and Vista English School.
