The FAI CAT II International Paragliding Accuracy Championship hosted by India at Serchhip, Mizoram was concluded yesterday after a three day competition which saw 23 participants. South Korea won the first prize in both men and women category, as well as in the team competition. Chief Minister of Mizoram Pu Zoramthanga graced the closing ceremony as chief guest.


The Paragliding Accuracy Championship competition which lasted for three days (13th - 15th February, 2020) had participants from India, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and South Korea who competed in rounds of eight. The top three winners in the womens category in order of merit are: Jin Hee Baek (South Korea), Jae Ryun Ha (South Korea) and Rupa Devi Karki (India). In the mens category, winners in order of merit are: Byung Chang Jeun (South Korea), Igor Virshki (Kazakhstan) and Vishal Kumar (India). The first prize has a cash award of 2000 euros, while second place is 1500 euros and third place 1300 euros, in both categories. In the team competition, team Korea bagged the first place, followed by Bir Billing and 3K. There were no cash award for the team competition.


The Chief Minister in his speech expressed his gratitude that the sporting event, the first of its kind to be hosted by Mizoram was concluded sucessfully. He hope more events of the same will take place in the future with even greater participants, especially from the youths in the state and thanked the Mizoram Aero-Sports Association and the organizing department, as well as the cooperation received from the Serchhip public making this championship a success. 


Minister of State for Tourism Pu Robert Romawia Royte, who was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony He stated his hope that more paragliding competitions and of much grander scale will continued to be held at Serchhip in the future. He also added that efforts will be made for better infrastructure in the game.


Yesterday's closing ceremony saw Pu Laduhoma, MLA Serchhip, Pu Andrew H. Thangliana, MLA Tuirial, Pu TC Pachhunga, Vice Chairman, Tourism Development Board and Pu C. Lalramzauva, Adviser to CM were in attendance, as well as important officials from the government.
