I would like to commend the University on being ranked 77th amongst Universities in India, as assessed by the NIRF.

In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024, Mizoram University also secured 1st Rank amongst Universities in the northeastern region of India.

Likewise, the University also ranked 2nd among the Central Universities of the North East Region, by bagging the 15th position in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2024 for Top 20 Central Universities Category.

The University with its 37 functioning academic departments and 2 centres offer UG, PG and Ph.D programmes under 10 Schools of Study. With its 40 affiliated colleges and one constituent college it is one of the pioneering universities of the country, in line with the NEP 2020. You should all feel genuine pride.

The University is one of the pioneering universities in the country that has successfully implemented the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) since 2013.

Automation of the examination and finance sections, as well as intra-campus network and Internet facilities, contributes to the enhanced efficiency of the university work and study culture.

The University is progressing towards offering programmes that envisage broad based, multi disciplinary and holistic education at various levels of UG and PG Programmes.

I certainly share your confidence that Mizoram University will remain a beacon of excellence in the North-eastern region of our Nation.

With great optimism, I believe Mizoram University will stand among the nation’s leading institutions, shaping the future of both scientific and human knowledge, while nurturing wisdom, confidence and integrity.

I have been informed that five faculty members and one research scholar from Mizoram University have been recognised among the World’s top 2% of scientists in a survey conducted by Stanford University, published in September 2024.

This shows the University’s growing prominence on the global academic stage and signals a bright future for the institution.

Another significant development is of the Mizoram Assembly unanimously passing the Mizoram State University Bill 2025, paving the way for the establishment of the state’s first government-run university. This move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

With this, the existing Mizoram University is set to transition into a research-intensive university by 2035. This is a significant step for Mizoram’s higher education landscape, addressing future academic needs and infrastructure. Gradually the university must align itself to this transition.

As I conclude, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of you. As you step forward with your testamur in hand, take pride in your journey and the dedication that brought you here.

May you find success, fulfilment and the courage to make a meaningful difference in this world. Remember, you are the future of India. As Roosevelt said “Keep your eyes on stars and your feet on ground”
