Sports & Youth Services Minister Shri Robert Romawia Royte today felicitated three Mizo women boxers – Vanlalduati, Lalbuatsaihi and Lalfakmawii Ralte at his office. The trio who won medals at the World Police and Fire Games held at Chengdu in China from August 9th to 18th represented India in the Women’s Boxing events.

Congratulating the trio, Sports Minister Shri Robert Romawia Royte remarked that their success was not a small feat and their efforts were commendable. He said that the trio were lucky as they will now be counted amongst the few Mizos who have won medals under the tricolour, abroad in an international event. On the occasion he reiterated the government’s commitment in developing sports in the state in a professional manner. He commented that the giving sports an industry status was being discussed and efforts towards this end are being made he said. He also remarked that Mizoram was planning to bid for hosting the National Games in 2024.

Vanlalduati of Border Security Force (BSF) won the Gold Medal in the Women’s Boxing 51 kgs category; Lalbuatsaihi of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) won the Gold Medal in the Women’s Boxing 64 kgs category while Lalfakmawii Ralte, also of SSB won the Silver Medal in the Women’s Boxing 81 kgs category.

India’s medal tally at the Games stood at 286 with 139 Gold, 81 Silver and 66 Bronze medals. The biennial athletic event this year drew more than 8000 athletes from 79 nations.
