Teachers’ Day 2019 was celebrated with much enthusiasm and fanfare across schools and colleges in Lunglei District yesterday. Students organized various entertainment programmes, and honored their teachers with bouquets, cakes, cards and gifts.

The Trainees’ Union, DIET Lunglei organized a Teachers’ Day celebration which was attended by the Higher & Technical Education Minister Dr R Lalthangliana as the Chief Guest while the Vice Chairman, Manpower Development Committee Pu Zothantluanga was the Guest of Honour. Addressing the gathering, the H&TE Minister complimented the Trainees’ Union, DIET for their thoughtful and earnest efforts to honour their lecturers on Teachers’ Day.  The Minister, himself a retired College lecturer, extended his greetings to the teaching fraternity, and vowed to work in earnest for their welfare, as well as pushing for further infrastructure developments in schools and colleges of Mizoram, which he pointed out, was the need of the hour. He also urged the students to strive towards excellence in their chosen field, while also focusing on developing skills that are ‘employable’. The Minister also informed the gathering that his Department was making headway towards establishing the much awaited Mizoram University Southern Mizoram Campus in Lunglei District. The Minister also shared anecdotes from his student days, much to the delight of the audience.

Teachers’ Day 2019 celebration at Lunglei was also marked by a grand celebration at Thuamluaia Mual, attended by hundreds of school students. While schools within Lunglei town have traditionally celebrated Teachers’ Day at their respective institutions, the scene was different this year with the MZP Hqrs Lunglei and Mizoram Independent School Association Lunglei jointly organizing a grand collective celebration at Thuamluaia Mual, Lunglei for the private schools. School Education Minister Pu Lalchhandama Ralte graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while the High Powered Committee Vice Chairman Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng and MYC Chairman Dr Vanlaltanpuia were also in attendance.
