Dated Aizawl, the 5th March 2024: To promote Aadhaar usages by States, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Regional Office Guwahati organized a State Level Workshop on “Deriving Maximum-Impact out of Aadhaar” at Aizawl on 5th March, 2024.

Speaking on the occasion, Commodore Dhiraj Sareen, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Regional Office Guwahati highlighted the significance and implications of Aadhaar as a tool for empowerment and a symbol of inclusivity. Commenting on the initiative launched in 2009, he stated that Aadhaar aims to provide every individual with a unique, verifiable identity. He further brought out how this has been instrumental in ensuring that even the most marginalized have access to various Govt. services, subsidies and benefits. He assured UIDAI’s continuous support to the state for improving ‘Ease of Living’ in Mizoram.

Addressing the audience, Pu R. Lalramnghaka, IAS, Secretary, Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms and PWD, Government of Mizoram highlighted the role of Aadhaar in delivering Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes to genuine and intended beneficiaries. He thanked UIDAI for organizing this comprehensive and informative workshop and urged the participants to explore ways to improve ease of living and simplifying lives of people. 

Shri. Saurabh K. Tiwari, Joint Secretary, DBT Mission, New Delhi, emphasized on use of Aadhaar in social welfare schemes to bring transparency in the existing system and urged the State Government that benefits shall be provided to the beneficiaries through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System for last mile delivery. He also highlighted how Aadhaar based DBT helps in savings to public exchequer and also ensuring transfer of the subsidy amount directly to the intended beneficiary bank accounts.

Col. Abhishek Koushik, Director appreciated the initiatives taken by the Nodal Department (O/o GAD, Mizoram) in achieving an upward trend in Aadhaar saturation in spite of geographic & logistic challenges and also highlighted key areas to be addressed for achieving greater saturation.

Officials from Head Office UIDAI and NPCI also made detailed presentations on Aadhaar usage. The presentations were about delivery of subsidies/benefits under Section-7 of Aadhaar Act 2016 using DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) and Aadhaar enabled Payment Systems (AePS).  It was also highlighted that Aadhaar authentication facilities can be availed by the entities for good Governance under Section 4(4)(b)(ii) of Aadhaar Act 2016.

Shri. Lalrohlua, Deputy Secretary, GAD, Government of Mizoram also shared some highlights on Aadhaar enrolment activities of the state. To ensure no one is left out, rigorous efforts were made by the District Administrations by organizing special Aadhaar Enrolment camps in remote locations to enrol the left out population.

The workshop ended with a positive note & vote of thanks by Shri. Kapil Jambhulkar, Director, UIDAI, RO, Guwahati.
