Aizawl, the 12thJune 2022 : Union Cabinet Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Shri Parshottam Rupala today inaugurated a hostel  - Post Graduate Boys’ Hostel II at College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry Selesih, near Aizawl. At the same function he also virtually inaugurated a hostel – Transit Hostel for College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren, Nagaland. Both colleges are amongst the 13 technical colleges under Central Agricultural University, Imphal, which are spread across all eight states of North East India. 

 

Addressing the inauguration function for the two hostels held at the Auditorium of the veterinary college, Shri Parshottam Rupala remarked that animal husbandry and dairying as a business have very short gestation periods since the return on investments are almost immediate. He urged on the need to scale up animal husbandry activities on a bigger scale so that farmers can increase their incomes from such activities. Commenting that veterinary doctors are rendering a noble service, he said humans can talk about their pain but animals cannot do so, therefore your knowledge and services help the creations of God who have no voice and yet help mankind in so many ways. 

 

Speaking about how Sikkim has made a name for itself in organic farming, he urged farmers of Mizoram too, to take proactive steps in this regard. He said that Community Based Organic Declaration is being worked out where a single village or even an area can be declared as organic and even certification fees in this regard will be made free, he added.

 

Shri Parshottam Rupala also interacted with local farmers at the Community Hall of the College where the farmers told him about their success stories. The Union Minister was accompanied by Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU Imphal; Dr. B. N Tripathi, Deputy Director General, Animal Science, ICAR Delhi and other officials.
